Star Wars episode 7 getting closer...

With less than a year to go now I though it would be the perfect time to remember what Star Wars gave us this year...

Really everything comes down to 88 seconds...

Enjoy The Force Awakens/ing

Lego Star Wars 2015 Sets

My son received the Lego 2015 catalogue just before Christmas and it had the new 2015 Lego sets that are hit stores here in Australia.

This year it appears that they should arrive sometime in February, however Lego being Lego they will most likely ship earlier.

The following sets are the main release:

There are 3 exclusives in this wave being the Azure Angel (pictured below), a Droid Carrier from Episode 1 and the Hallifire Droid from Episode 2 (pictured below).

And so this con season has begun...

As per usual in each July San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) is thrust upon us.  What this particular season gives is always bountiful, Hasbro usually show product that has just been released and product that is coming up.  Lego usually show their summer wave which has either hit stores or is just about to hit stores, amongst other suppliers showing their wares Gentle Giant and Sideshow collectibles always have some pretty amazing product to display.

As this post is the first for a while I thought I'd show some images that I've sourced with what is coming out over the next few weeks with some other cool Star Wars related objects...

Hasbro:

Yodasnews have posted some images of the upcoming rebels and saga legends figures. looking at the images I'd say that they are still the 5 points of articulation while the rebels figures appear in the animated style from the Clone Wars series:

Images sourced on yodasnews.com and can be found here

Lego:

As per the norm with Lego ®  they will be having a panel at SDCC discussing their Star Wars, Hobbit, Chima, Marvel and other associated licenses.  This year Lego have the Ghost as a mini set Star Wars exclusive.  The set comprises a chibi orientated ship with the minifgure for the character Chopper.

This set has been doing the rounds rather frequently today, yahoo have placed a picture of it up on their website while Eurobricks.com also has an image showing the set.

Other news:

Starwars.com is showing a copy of one of the first publications that Marvel comics will distribute when it regains the Star Wars license.

For those who thought that Star Wars was with Darkhorse comics you were correct, however Marvel is owned by Disney and as such when the contract with Darkhorse expired it was going back to Marvel (originally Star Wars comics were produced by Marvel) as they are owned by Disney.

Marvel are releasing their original comics in Omnibus form, the first omnibus (shown below) will be some 888 pages at a cost of approximately $130.

As you can see this forms part of the legends line which is the new designation that Lucasfilm have associated to the previously titled "Expanded Universe" EU for short.

Stay tuned over the next week or two as I post some info relating to Episode 7 and the upcoming information from SDCC 2014...

In the week of May the 4th...

As per the annual hum drum that is Star Wars day, May the 4th we have had an expansion of this annual phenomenon to week long proportions.

currently there are give aways all over the internet:

Lego has their traditional May the 4th exclusive give away to coincide with a release of the next UCS set (this year it is the Sandcrawler).  the give away consists of a Darth Revan poly bag and a poster as shown below (there is also a competition where once a product is purchased you go in the draw for a 6 set prize):

Sideshow collectibles is also running a May the 4th special which releases a new product for the few days leading in to Star Wars day starting on the 1st which was a life size Boba Fett, there are several sets to be release over the coming days.  Not only will new product be released but there is the opportunity to win yourself a life size bust of Darth Vader with no purchase required.

Amazon also gets in to the act this year by having a select number of the Star Wars Rebels t-shirts for order along with some other specials...

Perhaps the biggest news of the week is reserved for Starwars.com which has shown a picture of the cast from Episode 7 sitting down and doing a reading of the script.

Also here in Asutralia we have the major cinema's doing there own tributes to May the 4th with both Hoyts and Village screening Star Wars Episodes I-VI over 2 days....

However you choose to spend this weekend, may the 4th be with you!

New York Toy Fair 2014

So New York Toy Fair is on at the moment...

This year we definitely received some great looking products from both Lego and Hasbro for the upcoming year.

First Up Hasbro:

Hasbro provided lots of images on the upcoming Rebels Series and the black series figures for this year.

Quite a number of them looked rather impressive:

Above: An imperial and the Character Zeb
Below: an Imperial of some sort and the character Ezra

Below is the Jedi Character Kanan

Above the imposing (sic) Chopper a droid of all manner of parts, whom we have been lead to believe is a rather cantankerous little droid.

Below are the Stormtrooper and the Sith Inquisitor.

The Black Series also showed a number of characters to come to the 3.75" line:

Darth Vader - Episode 3.
Wedge Antilles - Episode 5.
Doallyn -Episode 6.
Ree Yees - Episode 6.
Luke Skywalker Hoth gear.
R5-G19
Luke Skywalker Dagobah Fatigues.
Snowtrooper
Toryn Farr
Yoda - Episode 5

The 6" series also showed a number of character to come out for 2014:

Stormtrooper
Episode 3 Darth Vader
Chewbacca
Clone Trooper - Episode 2
Sandtrooper
Darth Vader - Episode 6
Luke Skywalker Episode 6

Some Deluxe figures are:

Jabba the Hutt
Biker Scout on Speeder Bike.

Vehicles:

There were a couple of Vehicles on offer from the Rebels TV Show coming out as well:

Star Wars comics return to where it all began.

Over the last few days starwars.com released an update on their page regarding the licensing for comics and graphic novelization for 2015 and beyond.  The page with its content can be viewed here.

Effectively, with Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm over 12 months ago it has decided to pull the comic and graphic novels of Star Wars back under its own publishing arm Marvel as soon as the contract with Dark Horse expired.

Dark Horse have been exceptionally good for Star Wars, it has maintained a presence in the market place when none existed for a considerable period of time for the franchise and from an avid dark horse comic reader this will be a sad when that last Star Wars comic is produced...

The response from Dark Horse has been short but to the point and can be read here.

One can only hope that Marvel treat this franchise with the same respect that Dark Horse did and give us as many exciting characters and arcs that have popped up in the last few years too...
